Robert’s legal career is highlighted by a deep commitment to public service and civic engagement. Robert’s civic service began in 2011, when he was appointed to the Los Angeles City Redistricting Commission, helping to define the boundaries and representation of the City’s diverse communities. In 2013, he was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti to serve as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the City’s development and land-use policies. He served as in this capacity until 2017, when he ran as a candidate for the United States Congress in California’s 34th District, qualifying for the General Election out of a crowded primary field of twenty-three candidates—an endeavor that underscored his lifelong dedication to public service and the constituents of Los Angeles. That same year, Robert was once again tapped by Mayor Garcetti to serve as the City of Los Angeles’ inaugural President of the Cannabis Regulation Commission, where he was instrumental in establishing the policy, framework and regulatory laws that govern the local cannabis industry.
Robert is a prominent leader in the City’s AAPI community, and currently serves as the President of the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles.
